You should only agree to write a letter for someone you know well. 2) To make the letter look more professional and you more credible always use letterhead stationary. Also, using your title in signing the letter once again demonstrates your credibility. 3) A teacher letter of recommendation should be at least four paragraphs but not more than six paragraphs in length. 4) Unless you have been asked to address the letter to a specific person the salutation should be general such as "To Whom It May Concern". 5) The first paragraph should state the purpose of the letter as well as mention your relationship with the student you are writing the letter about. By including statements such as "It is with great pleasure" or "with my highest recommendation" you are able to heighten the student beyond the general student body. 6) The next paragraph(s) should discuss the accomplishments, honors, awards and academic achievements of the student. 7) The following paragraph(s) should tell about the student's skills, strengths, talents and abilities. 8) The final paragraph of the letter should mention your confidence in the student. Also be sure to offer to be contacted if further information is required. 9) Teacher recommendation letters should always close with "Sincerely" and your name and title. Be sure to personally sign the letter in ink. 10) Offer the student two copies of the original letter for their use and files. Teachers are in the profession because they have a desire to help children.
