COMEDIAN MONIQUE - Clothing
When you think about the men and women who have changed the face of comedy today, it's hard to imagine a lineup that didn't include the bold and beautiful comedienne Mo'Nique. Whether it's television sitcoms, comedy club venues, or Oscar-nominated movies, Mo'Nique has entertained the world with her amazing wit, superior acting abilities, and her fresh outlooks on beauty and relationships. Mo'Nique began her comedy career on a gamble. Dared to take the stage for open-mic night at a local comedy club by her brother, fans quickly fell in love with her sense of humor. The reactions from that very first performance gave her the courage to pursue comedy as a full-time career. Her popularity skyrocketed with her roles on "Moesha" and "The Parkers" as Nicole "Nikki" Parker. Fans simply could not get enough of Mo'Nique, and she did not disappoint with a string of stand-up appearances on "Showtime at the Apollo" as well as "Def Comedy Jam" and "Comic View." But it was Mo'Nique's talent for blending humor while at the same time bringing attention to fresh viewpoints on different aspects of society that endeared her so well to many of her fans. The release of her book, "Skinny Women are Evil: Notes of a Big Girl in a Small-Minded World," showed that Mo'Nique was not afraid to take on the tough job of teaching all women to love themselves for who they are as opposed to what society thinks they need to look like to be successful. The response was immediate and overwhelming, and it fueled her to create the 2007 documentary, "I coulda been your cellmate!" Mo'Nique used her talents to give people a fresh way of thinking about the reasons women end up in the penal system, as well as giving the incarcerated women new ways to think about their own self-esteem and self-worth. It was a bold career move, but one that was welcomed with great success. With her own talk show, numerous TV shows such as "Mo'Nique's F.A.T. Chance" and "Flavor of Love Girls: Charm School," and roles in Oscar-nominated movies, Mo'Nique certainly has come along way from her start in the Baltimore comedy scene. But despite her success, she has never stopped respecting the people that helped her make it happen: her fans. It is this quality that ensures Mo'Nique will remain one of the best-loved female comedians of the new millennium.
