COIN APPRAISAL - Free

As I left the bank last week I happened to notice that the teller gave me two half dollar coins in my change. When I got home I didn't even remember I had them. It was not until a few days later that I was rummaging through the pockets of my trousers while I was attempting to load the washing machine. I heard the jingling sound of change and removed the contents of my pocket only to rediscover the two half dollars. At this time I began to inspect the handful of change and I noticed another coin, it was a quarter from 1937. Although I have never been an avid coin collector I do have small accumulation of coins in my sock drawer. I don't know why I kept them in my sock drawer. I guess for some reason I saw a reason to save these oddities that I occasionally got back in change after I'd make purchases. After exhaustively finding all the random coins in my sock drawer I decided to finally find out what these things were worth; if anything. I found a local coin dealer who was willing to appraise my collection. As it turned out some of the coins were very rare and were worth several hundred dollars. One of these coins was a half dollar from 1853 and was individually appraised at 0. And that quarter from 1937 turned out to be worth . After some research I decided not to sell my small stockpile. Coins hold their value. For example a quarter will always be worth a minimum of 25 cents. If it goes up in value you are increasing your equity with each small coin. You can never lose money because they only increase in value. That's not a bad investment for something that cost you very little and required no work. So from now on I always check my change. In every pocket of loose change there is a chance there is a hidden or neglected treasure. Recently our nation's economy has been on shaky ground. Many speculators are predicting that coin prices will continue to hold strong or increase. Many countries such as china have encouraged their citizens to invest their money in precious metals. Since many people cannot afford gold it has been recommended to look at more affordable alternatives such as silver. Coins are just one affordable way of being able to invest in silver and precious metals. As a result I think we will see an increase in coin enthusiasts over the next few years.
