It always seems that appliances break down at the most inconvenient times. Typically an appliance breaks down when the house is full of company or funds are very low. In many locations across the country there are stores that specialize solely in scratch dent appliances. Many large department or discount stores will also offer a lower price on these items. There are even scratch dent websites to handle this merchandise. When people hear the words scratch dent a picture comes to mind of an appliance with a huge dent and missing finish. Nothing could be further from the truth. Yes, some items might look like this, but not the majority of them. To be considered a scratch dent appliance some or all of the following criteria must be met: boxless, dented, repacked, refurbished and many times close out items are included in this description. As one can see, it might be possible to get an item that is simply missing a box without any other damage. Some items might have the scratch or dent on a side which can be conveniently placed against a wall. If paint is missing from the front of an item, there are many paints available to match a host of finishes. Some people will not even consider any of these items because they are concerned about the warranty of the appliance. The classification of scratch dent has no effect on the manufacturer's warranty or the store warranty. The warranty applies in full to the appliance purchased as do rebates and mail in offers. The price of these items can range from one-quarter to one-half less depending on the damage. These prices are less than purchasing an item wholesale. Of course, if one is not in a rush to replace an appliance, more time can be given to locating an item that meets your specifications. One should remember whichever item is settled on, they come "as is." Each store has a different policy concerning delivery. As with any appliance, some stores charge a delivery and set-up charge and others do not.
